I'm a freelance writer who also binds books, kayak guides, and likes to think about cities, communities and public space.
Since 2011 my work — in photography, non-fiction writing, reportage, and archives – has tended to focus on the relationship between built and natural environments, social relationships, storytelling, and the state. This relationship was at the heart of my documentary project City Under One Roof, about life in Whittier, Alaska, a former military base turned civilian town. I write about infrastructure and public policy for Next City. My writing and photography have appeared in High Country News online, the Anchorage Press, Spoke Magazine, Satellite Magazine, Business Insider, and Nautilus Magazine's blog Facts so Romantic, among others.
